Hong Kong will host the IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship for the first time from February 18 – 21, 2015 at Mega Ice, MegaBox. Governed by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), organized by the HongKong Ice Hockey Association and Subvented by the Home Affairs Bureau and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group B Qualification will be the highest ranking international tournament to be ever held in Hong Kong. Four world class teams will be participating in this tournament, including South Africa, Turkey, Bulgaria and Hong Kong.
In the past few years, women’s ice hockey has grown rapidly in Asia. Recognizing the potential of the sport in Asia, more emphasis are being placed in the development of women’s ice hockey with a view to encourage greater participation of women’s national teams in the IIHF World Championships. Such world class tournaments will also provide an elite platform for athletes to compete and encourage more exchange between players from different regions in Asia.
